Day 89 (March 30, 2010): The Carrot Community Arts Coffee House

http://artsontheave.org/thecarrot/

Tonight we decided to go check out "The Carrot Community Arts Coffee House" on 118 Ave.  As many Edmontonians are aware 118 Ave is undergoing a transformation from quite an undesirable area to more of a artsy area.  The Carrot is a result of that transformation.  It is a completely volunteer run coffee house.  By opening up The Carrot in that space they kept the building from turning into another pawn shop or worse!

We went on a Wednesday so there weren't any scheduled activities but they do have open mic nights and live entertainment nights. There is a stage at the front of the main room.  I became aware of The Carrot because I heard about a community meeting that was being held there.  The atmosphere at The Carrot is really relaxed and homey.  They have couches and lounge chairs as well as tables to have your coffee and snacks at.  Ken had green tea and I had mint tea.  We chatted with some of the people who were volunteering there.  We also checked everything out.  They have a community bulletin board with events and notices.  They have art work from local artists (Paintings, photography, jewelry etc.) displayed throughout the coffee house.  It is a really neat place to go for a totally unique coffee house experience.  They also offer organic soups, bagels and other snacks.

We really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and would definitely go back again.
